A “Global Financial Internet” is what DeFi was always meant to achieve. The dream is for any party, located anywhere, to transact within global markets, anytime, anywhere. The Global Financial Internet should be free from barriers imposed by countries, regulators, and bureaucracies and should be entirely borderless.

The traditional system is broken, investors can’t access Global Markets, and nation states can’t connect their economies and financial systems to Global Markets. This is because traditional markets were never meant to support global capital flows.

DeFi has successfully fixed this enabling any builder, from any country, to create highly specialized financial applications, built for an internet-native audience. It has removed barriers imposed by countries but remains infested with borders between blockchain ecosystems. DeFi builders today are constrained by the liquidity and userbase present in the blockchain ecosystem they’re building on, and often find it hard to tap into global liquidity onchain. Blockchains, like nations were not built for Global Markets.

But, why do we need a Global Financial Internet?

  • Market participants, like financial institutions and liquidity providers can access a broader selection of assets with a wide spectrum of risk-reward. They can access investment opportunities that were unavailable before, and take part in growth stories of new companies anywhere, whether crypto-native or not. User assets serve purpose amongst each-other and can be transacted with one another without borders. There's no need to manage numerous private keys, or onboard to a new blockchain each month. The user decides which security measures to implement for their single profile on the Global Financial Internet.

  • Nation states and countries can connect their local economies to global markets, opening their economy to investors anywhere to accelerate their commercial development. Capital is the foundation for an emerging nation state, and countries historically have had to seek alternative options like debt from established countries to finance infrastructure development. The Global Financial Internet is a catalyst to growth for any nation's economy.

  • Developers can build entirely new use-cases on top of global liquidity and chain states. They will be able to build their app wherever it has the best tech to support it, instead of placing a bet on where they will be able to find users and liquidity. They will compose using solutions that others have built no matter where they have built it (if one app is built on Solana and one is on Base, they should still have the option to work together to bring the best experience to users). The Global Financial Internet is built in collaboration not in competition.

What is Spicenet?

Spicenet is The Composability Middleware for the Global Financial Internet.

Build Omni-Composable Apps, Assets and Chains, and Compose with any DeFi Asset, Liquidity Pool, or Market on any Blockchain Network.

We believe that Finance and Trading is the prime use-case of blockchains, and we are still scratching the surface of DeFi's capabilities. We have come to a couple conclusions that guide the infrastructure we are building.

Developers should build on the chain that best supports their application, not the one that gives them the greatest distribution. Currently, developers are forced to build where they think they will be able to capture the most users and liquidity. That is a nightmare in an industry whose meta changes multiple times per year. If every asset, user, and dollar of liquidity was available regardless of what chain is being built on, applications would be built on the infrastructure that aligns best with their product. Global composability not only solves sourcing of liquidity and users, it creates entirely new use-cases. Imagine an app that blends RWAFi assets with Bitcoin-native assets, establishing seamless interoperability between the two of the largest addressable markets. We have not seen such an app yet because liquidity is highly fragmented, much like the way that capital is traditionally landlocked to it's respective nation.

Secondly, standardized trading infrastructure leads to more innovation by removing the need to rebuild the same features. Developers spend less time building the underlying infrastructure, and more time building novel applications. With a well-defined, diverse and configurable standard to build financial applications, we unlock the next evolution of financial and trading use-cases.

We have three main product lines: the Spicenet Trading Stack, the Spicenet Execution Network, and the Spicenet Validation Layer.

  • The Spicenet Trading Stack is an unopinionated standard to build fully customizable financial applications. It enables a builder to customize end-to-end properties of their application, such as collateral types that are supported, types of instruments available, markets and asset pairs tradable, and so on. By enabling full-stack customizability developers can create niche and highly specialized applications serving any specific audience's needs. Apps can be built in weeks rather than years using the trading stack and are natively omni-composable. however, apps built on a chain outside of Spicenet without the trading stack can still acheive omni-composability by integrating with Spicenet.

  • The Spicenet Execution Network is a self-improving cluster of AI agents and solvers using coordinated intents to fulfil and execute orders against liquidity located anywhere. Leveraging a modular architecture of Orchestrators, Executors and Rebalancers, liquidity routes can be added and aggregated efficiently, order execution can be coordinated across multiple executors, and inventory can be balanced real-time. The Execution Network is the key to abstracting the siloed chain experience allowing omni-composable intents to be fulfilled.

  • The Spicenet Validation Layer is the security provider for omnichain intents. One of the biggest problems for omnichain intents has always been reconciling heterogenous security properties of different blockchains. For example, an omnichain intent between Solana and Base would require Solana to trust Base's security properties in order to unlock funds for the solver. However, Base currently runs a centralized sequencer with no live fraud proofs, meaning that the Base sequencer could lie about the state of the Base L2. The Spicenet Validation Layer uses a mix of cryptoeconomic(staking) and cryptographic(ZK proofs) to validate and independently verify omnichain intents.

Why Spicenet and Why Now?

As the Composability Middleware, Spicenet connects anyone and everyone to Global Internet Markets, opening up new opportunities and use-cases for users and developers.

Developers can build highly specialized financial applications optimized for Global Internet Markets without having to worry about liquidity and user fragmentation. Nation States can move entire financial markets onchain — things like stocks, bonds, real estate, energy, commodities and more — and connect these local markets to global liquidity.

Financial Institutions and Users can experience Disneyland for financial markets. They can tap into new opportunities on- and off-chain, and access totally new asset classes that were previously gated. For example, it becomes easy for financial institutions to natively earn yield on their Bitcoin while maintaining self-custody. And users can finally have access to alternative financial markets that were previously hard to access due to restrictive barriers.

But, why now? We are seeing immense tailwinds in the real-world adoption of cryptoassets. Many countries like the US and El Salvador are now counting Bitcoin in their treasury. Multiple financial institutions including banks are launching their own specialized blockchains and conducting pilots. With adoption of BTC and ETH ETFs, 2025, and beyond are poised to bring a massive inflow of capital, interest and most importantly, governments and blue-chip institutions to crypto.

We believe that eventually all financial markets will be moved onchain — and over the past years we have seen many major catalysts in making that happen. Spicenet is the only technology in all of crypto that allows anyone, be it a developer, asset issuer, financial institution, or even a nation state, to access composability with any DeFi asset, liquidity pool, or market.

Progress

We've already secured intentions to go omni-composable from some of the leading crypto projects, including major assets and blockchains, spanning largely siloed and unaccessible markets such as RWA, AI and Bitcoin. This is much bigger than your average ZK AI EVM L2 project the guy next door is building. The world's biggest financial institutions and nation states are moving entire economies onchain, but struggle with low demand and siloed access to DeFi. Spicenet is the only institutional-scale offering that provides composability with DeFi assets and liquidity to institutions.
